Logbook, 1852-1853 (inclusive).

A single volume ship's log kept during the Horsburgh's 1852-1853 voyage to San Francisco and Shanghai. Daniel Sage Emmerton, a young seaman from Salem, Massachusetts, maintained the log. The daily entries record the ship's latitude and longitude, the direction of the wind, and the ship's navigational course. Most entries include a brief note describing the weather and the sails used that day. Emmerton occasionally mentions other notable events, such as the passing of other ships. There are no entries for the ship's time in port.
